Bill O’Reilly Admits Lie

Surprisingly Fox News host Bill O’Reilly apologized Thursday night for his erroneous comments about the 50th anniversary celebrations of the March on Washington. O’Reilly had complained that no Republicans had been invited to the event. In fact, many, including both living Republican presidents, John McCain, Jeb Bush and John Boehner had been asked to attend. All declined for various reasons.

O’Reilly admitted that he had been wrong saying, “The mistake? Entirely on me, I simply assumed republicans were excluded.”

What kind of ethical journalist reports an assumption as fact without any efforts to verify it. If Fox News had any journalistic integrity they would reprimand O’Reilly with a fine or a suspension. But of course they did not do this because they are not a legitimate news organization. Therefore the traditional rules of journalism does not apply. This is one of the many examples that support this finding.

I explored other examples of conservative media lying to their viewers in a blog post I wrote a few weeks ago. Here’s the link if you’d like to check it out: http://sociallyurban.com/conservative-media-lies/
